Bright colors that coordinate were a perfect choice for beautiful spring portraits in Austin.

Add some straw fedoras for the boys and we’re all set. Is ‘straw fedora’ a misnomer? Anyway, they were cute hats!

We loved the greenery and the classic timelessness of these portraits but this family was definitely enthusiastic about trying something new and fun too, so we went for it.

Srishti chose to wear a traditional sari for some of the pictures which added a beautiful element to their session.

With the Sandia Mountains as a backdrop and lightly falling snow, it was a surreal setting to work in and we had a great (although chilly!) time and worked it out to create a set of truly amazing images.

Srishti was such a trooper, she braved the cold for this session but I think she’ll agree that the end result was well worth it!

I frequently have this discussion with people.  It usually winds up with them expressing that they’ve looked online but there is so much information and so many things to consider that it quickly gets overwhelming!

With this in mind, I’m sharing a very brief and very simple list of the things to consider when shopping for a point-and-shoot digital camera.

• What is your budget?
• What are you planning to use the camera for?
• Do you want simple and easy or one with settings that will allow you more freedom to be creative?

Budget.  Ah, that wonderful that is an important factor in many decisions.  Cameras are available on every end of the price spectrum, and this includes point-and-shoot cameras.  You can get a fun little camera for around $50 or spend up to $800 or more on a point-and-shoot camera with enough bells and whistles to keep you busy for a week.

Generally, you get what you pay for.  If you plan to use your camera more than once a month, you’ll likely regret spending too little.  The inexpensive cameras are not sturdy and will break quickly.  Instead of buying several cheap cameras, you’d be much better off to save yourself frustration and get the best you can afford.  That doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot, it simply means don’t jump at the cheapest thing you see and tell yourself “it’s good enough.”

What are you going to use your camera for?  Are you planning to print out every picture for scrapbooking or are you like most people and a majority of your images will never even see the light of a print, instead living out their life on your computer screen and Facebook?

Many shoppers make their decision based primarily on the megapixels a camera has.  If 10mp is good then 14mp must be even better!  Not necessarily.  While megapixels are a factor to consider, with the amazing technology available today to ensure that your pictures are crisp and clear it should not be your primary consideration.  Unless you’re planning to blow your pictures up for posters or huge prints, virtually any camera you purchase nowadays will be suitable.   It’s more important to base your decision on how compatible the camera is with your needs.

Does your camera need to know how to fix dinner?  Only kidding.  What is, for me, the most important thing to analyze when shopping for your new digital camera is how well it suits your needs.  If you need something simple, then shop for the one that is the easiest to use.  If you want one you can stash in your pocket, then size is an important factor for you.  If you want the freedom to adjust exposure, take HD video, use your camera on a tripod and tag your photos with a GPS location then those are features to look for and that are worth paying for!

Here are a few in a range of prices that will give you a place to get started with your research.  All of these are cameras that I would personally feel very comfortable purchasing.

I chose this image for the theme because I think she’s beautiful and her body language, combined with her facial expression, reminds me of the many ways human form can be interpreted.
